Casa do Paço is located on a farm of five acres, on top of a small valley cut into terraces, a few miles from Paredes de Coura. Its name is due to the fact that it had experienced over four centuries, illustrious families, and linked to the United Church as D. Antonio Mendes de Carvalho, 1st Bishop of Elvas, who was born here in 15 21. The original house, dating from the sixteenth century, little remains, and the moth and the solar genuine eighteenth-century architecture, giving it some mystery and nobility. Despite the noble characteristics, the house has a rustic feel by inserting a farm where agricultural activities have always been crucial to the lives of people who lived here. In the gardens there are the porches, the cuts for the animals that are still used for farm work and a set of crops that are part of the cellar, the floor where defoliation corn, spinach typically accompanied by the beautiful Minho to drying of grain. In 1988, the house was bought by Heitor Alves who, three years later, made â??â??major restoration works in the sun, exploring the regional architecture, preserving the old building abroad and adapting the house to the guest house. The House of the Palace is an excellent starting point for the discovery of this Minho region, preserved in time and traditions.
